"LeAnne Sowa - Watercolorist/ Fine Artist"
LeAnne (Mawby) Sowa is a Western Michigan fine artist. At an early age she discovered her passion for art. Every chance that she had she would be drawing in a sketch pad or on a piece of paper. Her favorite mediums soon became watercolor, graphite pencil and Pen and Ink.
LeAnne studied art in high school and also mechanical drafting. Later studies included painting classes with Nancy Fox at Montcalm Community College, classes at the Fransican Center under June Berte, Cheri Den Boer and Linda Baker. She also was able to enroll in watercolor classes at Hertfordshire College in Ware, England where she and her family lived for one year.
LeAnne has been exhibiting her work since 1988, participating in a multitude of shows. These include shows at St. Cecilia's, Greenville Community Center, Eclectic Gallery in Ionia, Bella Vista Church in Rockford, D2 D2 Rivertown Artists Gallery, the Steketies Rivertown Artists Gallery, Rogue River Artists Group Shows and outdoor shows in Saugatuck, Holland, Grand Rapids, Ionia, Novi and Rockford. She has been a participant in the first five years of "Artprize" in Grand Rapids, Michigan (2009 - 2013). She recieved the "Cora Bliss Taylor" Award at the Saugatuck Waterfront Invitational in 2011 and the Tom and Judy Anthrop Award in 2013.
Her art is currently in "Petri Gallery" of Pentwater, "Saugatuck Artists Collective" in Saugatuck, "The Raven's Nest" in Traverse City, The Frames Unlimited Galleries in Michigan and Cleveland, Ohio and Stone Hedge Gallery in Elk Rapids, Michigan.
LeAnne is married, with two daughters, four grandsons, one dog and a cat.
